12:32Now PlayingIn the latest updates, V Senthil Balaji, who is now imprisoned, was sacked from the Council of Ministers or the Tamil Nadu cabinet on Thursday with immediate effect over corruption allegations. Senthil Balaji was facing significant criminal charges in multiple counts of corruption, including the cash-for-job scandal and money laundering, according to an official announcement from the Raj Bhavan dated June 29. The statement said that the minister had interfered with the inquiry and obstructed the rule of law and justice by abusing his position as a minister. In connection with a criminal case that the Enforcement Directorate is looking into, the minister is presently being held in judicial custody. The state police are looking into further criminal cases against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code. Balaji's judicial custody was extended earlier on Wednesday by the Chennai Sessions Court's chief judge till July 12. Through video conference from Kauvery Hospital, Senthil Balaji attended court.
