3:09Now PlayingThe Rajasthan Petroleum Dealers Association (RPDA) has announced a protest against the high VAT rates in the state, leading to the temporary closure of petrol pumps on September 13 and 14, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If the state government doesn't take action to lower these tax rates, the RPDA representatives have warned of an indefinite strike starting from the 15th. According to the RPDA, VAT rates on petrol and diesel in Rajasthan are the highest among neighboring states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Gujarat, and remain the second-highest in the country despite a reduction by the government last year. This high taxation burdens the people in the state, with as much as 20% of the cost of auto fuels attributed to VAT, as per the association's statement.
