The bus was purchased as part of the CPM-led Left-front government's 'Nava Kerala Sadas' public outreach program, which began on Saturday across the state. The bus funding were authorized by loosening treasury constraints on increased spending. The luxury bus drew a lot of flak, especially because the state was in deep financial trouble and social welfare pensions of Rs 1,600 were owed to almost 60 lakh beneficiaries for four months.
