Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice G S Kulkarni, sitting as a division bench, stated that although the legislation and regulations regarding air pollution were in existence, they needed to be put into practice. Even while the city's air quality index could be excellent, it will revert to bad or worse within a few months, according to the report. The court was considering many petitions, including one it had started on its own in December of last year over the city's increasing air pollution.
