Meanwhile, the Congress referred to the comments as "cheap tactics". In response to S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, who said that the DMK had not demonstrated "responsibility on the issue," DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai noted that the BJP administration at the Centre had not taken any action in the previous ten years to resolve the issue. Jayavardhan, the AIADMK's nominee for the South Chennai Lok Sabha, criticised the DMK and Congress on the matter.
