The BJP has fielded Sudhakar, a former minister of health, family welfare, and medical education, from Chikkaballapur. Speaking at a press conference one day after Sudhakar reported that he was denied entry to Vishwanath's residence when he went to ask for help, the MLA added that “such gimmicks are unnecessary” and that it may end up being expensive. The BJP fielded Alok Vishwanath, Vishwanath's son, to represent Chikkaballapur. Even though the BJP chose to field Sudhakar, a number of BJP lawmakers in the Lok Sabha segment opposed the decision.
