3:22Now PlayingPakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, on Saturday, warned that Islamabad would respond to any “future misadventures” by India with strikes reaching as far as Kolkata, according to PTI. Speaking to reporters in Sialkot, about 130 km from Lahore, Asif said, “If India tries to stage any false flag operation this time, then God-willingly, we will take it to Kolkata.”
He alleged that India could be planning a “false-flag operation” using either its own personnel or detained Pakistanis, claiming such an attempt could involve “laying down some bodies somewhere and saying they were terrorists and had done so and so.” However, he did not provide any evidence to support the allegation. The remarks come amid an escalating war of words between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. Earlier this week, Asif had warned that Pakistan’s response to any attack would be “swift, calibrated, and decisive,” adding that any future escalation would be met with an even stronger reaction. Asif’s comments were in response to statements by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who said that any “misadventure” by Pakistan would invite “unprecedented and decisive” action.
