4:45Now PlayingThousands of Cubans took to the streets of Havana on Friday to demonstrate fierce solidarity with former President Raúl Castro after federal prosecutors in the United States unsealed a criminal indictment and issued an arrest warrant against the 94-year-old revolutionary figurehead. Led by current Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and other high-ranking military and state officials, the mass rally took place at the Anti-Imperialist Tribune directly outside the U.S. Embassy. The U.S. Department of Justice charges Castro with murder and conspiracy over the 1996 downing of two unarmed civilian aircraft operated by the Miami-based exile group Brothers to the Rescue. While U.S. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche asserted that the planes were intercepted over international waters, Cuban leadership has vehemently rejected the charges as a fabricated, politically motivated pretext designed to justify potential foreign military intervention.
