5:23Now PlayingWater cannon were deployed near Belfast for a second night on Wednesday, as unrest flared after a knife attack described as an 'attempted beheading' involving a Sudanese asylum seeker. Footage shows masked protesters dressed in black hurling stones and other objects at police water cannon. Several bins and barricades can also be seen burning.
The disorder followed a night of violence on Tuesday, when masked protesters set barricades alight and reportedly attacked homes, properties and businesses linked to minority ethnic communities. Buses and other vehicles were also torched before riot police dispersed the crowds. The unrest was sparked by footage shared on social media showing a knife-wielding attacker slashing at a man’s head and neck. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attack 'sickening.'
