The blaze, which reportedly began on the top floor, burned for more than an hour and trapped several people inside. Some students jumped from windows to escape, while rescue teams shattered windows to reach those trapped. The building also housed a pet shop. Firefighters and police eventually brought the fire under control. Yogi Adityanath ordered assistance for affected families, while Narendra Modi expressed condolences and announced ex gratia compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.
