Four cargo vessels carrying key fertiliser inputs have successfully crossed the strategic waterway and are now headed to Indian ports. The development comes as tensions in the Gulf continue to impact global maritime traffic. According to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, the cargo will be unloaded upon arrival to strengthen fertiliser reserves and meet agricultural demand ahead of the crucial Kharif sowing season.
The shipments come at a time when maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains under pressure due to tensions linked to the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran. The waterway is one of the world's most important energy and trade routes, handling nearly one-fifth of global oil flows. Shipping activity has faced uncertainty in recent weeks, raising concerns over the movement of critical commodities, including fertilisers.
