8:02Now PlayingAmid continuing tensions in West Asia, India and Iran are in discussions over the future management of Chabahar Port as the United States pushes for a fresh round of negotiations with Tehran after President Donald Trump shelved planned military strikes, according to people familiar with the matter cited by The Economic Times. The report said the Indian government is negotiating with Iran to reach an arrangement with the country's ports authority that would allow Chabahar Port to remain under an alternative management structure, with a provision that operational rights would revert to India once US sanctions are lifted.
New Delhi is also seeking a legally binding agreement from the Iranian government to ensure that any interim arrangement between the two port authorities is honoured in the future.
