Aug 11, 20268:42Now PlayingPrime Minister Donald Tusk hailed Poland's $10 billion Apache helicopter deal as the 'largest' military purchase in the country's history on Tuesday, despite critics questioning whether the hugely expensive gunships still make sense on a battlefield increasingly dominated by drones and portable air-defence systems.
Visiting the WZL-1 helicopter service facility in Lodz, Tusk defended the purchase of 96 Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardians as Poland pushes ahead with one of Europe's biggest military build-ups.
"We are truly building the most modern army in Europe, capable of defending our borders. And that is priceless. It is worth all the money, and it is worth our efforts," Tusk told the press.
Poland signed the deal with the United States in August 2024, with the package also covering weapons, spare parts, training and logistics support.
