8:30Now PlayingAn old steam boat that once witnessed Serbia's turbulent past is the latest historic relic revealed by Europe's drying rivers that have been suffering in prolonged, extreme heat and drought. The boat known as The Slovenian is protruding from the Sava River near the town of Sremska Mitrovica, northwest of the capital Belgrade.
While parts have appeared above the surface before, locals say it has never been so exposed. Warships, mammoth bones and parts of ancient constructions, all have emerged from the slumping waters of the rivers such as the Danube or the Rhine as the scorching drought also caused major problems in energy, trade and water supplies.
