8:09Now PlayingPakistan on Wednesday summoned US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker and lodged a ”strong demarche” over remarks by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor regarding Jammu and Kashmir during his visit to the union territory.
Gor made the remarks after meeting Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar. Speaking about his visit, the US envoy said he was pleased to be in J&K and described the region as “an incredibly beautiful place”, adding that he was “thrilled” to see it. “This (J&K) is an important part of India and I'm here visiting for the first time,” Gor said. His comments assume significance as India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and that its status is an internal matter.
