Ukrainians arriving from those areas would no longer automatically qualify for protection, while Kyiv would remain outside the proposed list. Immigration and Integration Minister Morten Bødskov said about 47,600 Ukrainian citizens currently live in Denmark and that some municipalities are struggling with housing and integration. The government is also considering an employment requirement for Ukrainians receiving benefits and reviewing rules allowing education in English and Ukrainian, including remotely. The proposals come amid wider debate in Europe over the future of wartime protection for Ukrainians, including calls in the Czech Republic for tighter welfare and residency rules.
