Russian State Duma International Affairs Committee Chairman Leonid Slutsky issued a blistering personal attack on Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Wednesday, calling his defence of Ukraine's strikes on Wildberries logistics facilities approval of "terrorist acts" and questioning whether Stubb could be considered "a sane person" or the right individual to hold Finland's presidency. Slutsky said Stubb had broken with what he described as Finland's traditionally balanced and conservative approach toward Russia, and declared that anyone who supports such actions "is a terrorist yourself." The Russian parliamentarian also dismissed Western democracy as largely fictitious, singling out the United States as having "no democracy at all" and criticising German Chancellors Scholz and Merz for damaging Germany's economic and political architecture. Slutsky described Russophobia across Europe as artificially manufactured and imported from across the Atlantic, expressing confidence that ordinary Europeans and public figures in many countries were already rolling back toward "common sense" and away from their governments' positions. He characterised Western leaders' visits to Kyiv as "pathetic gatherings" and asserted that Russia remains and will always remain an integral part of European civilisation regardless of attempts by individual leaders to claim otherwise. Slutsky's remarks were made in the context of Ukraine's strikes on Wildberries facilities, which Russia has characterised as terrorist attacks on civilian infrastructure. (Agencies)
