0:48Now PlayingDHS Secretary Kristi Noem assured Rep. Seth Magaziner (D-RI) that ICE has not deported US military veterans. One small problem: the deported US vet who joined the hearing virtually.
“Madam Secretary, we are joined on Zoom by a gentleman named Sae Joon Park. He is a United States Army combat veteran who was shot twice while serving our country in Panama in 1989," Magazine told Noem.
Park was taken into custody by Customs and Border Protection agents at an airport in Honolulu and placed on a one-way flight to South Korea in June. Park, a green-card holder and a Purple Heart recipient, self-deported after he was placed on a deportation list.
The Trump administration isn’t the first to deport veterans. Officials across the administration, though, have repeatedly and falsely denied detaining or deporting US citizens or those in the country with other legal protections.
