1:47Now PlayingOn Sunday, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. falsely claimed on CNN that, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, there were empty ICUs in New York. The comment came as part of RFK Jr.’s effort to blame the crisis on former president Joe Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the face of the country’s Covid-19 response. Dr. Omer Awan, a radiologist, calls the comment “deeply concerning,” pointing to flooded New York ICUs and tents set up in Central Park to treat patients. In March of 2020, PBS reported a surge in deaths overwhelmed New York City’s morgues and hospitals, prompting the Federal Emergency Management Agency to send 85 refrigerated trucks to serve as temporary morgues.
