as posted by the channelThis retired US Marine got a second chance at Iwo Jima. Major William C. White, 104, is now that oldest living survivor of the epic 36-day WWII battle that killed 29,000 men. Seventy-five years later, "Bill" looks back at the grenade explosion that nearly took his life — and awarded him a Purple Heart.
"I was probably dead, but I managed to somehow get up and find my way back to the Marines," he revealed from his assisted-living home in Stockton, California. "From there I somehow staggered my way back to the hospital. And that was the end of that."
