3:40Now PlayingOn July 12, 2022, a summer boat trip turned tragic when an overloaded vessel capsized in the Hudson River, fatally trapping a 7-year-old boy and a 50-year-old woman underneath. Find out how veteran metro desk reporter Kevin Sheehan uncovered the heartbreaking story of a family reunion-turned-deadly. “The more you find out, the sadder it gets” he says.
Sheehan interviewed dozens of the victims’ relatives, friends and coworkers to piece together the story behind the accident, exposing the extreme risk involved in renting a boat “without any maritime experience.” After investigating with local marinas, Sheehan says it’s likely the individual that rented out the boat “doesn’t have a commercial license,” but is waiting on more information from police.
