1:02Now PlayingSlain NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller’s wife demanded change in an emotional eulogy at the fallen officer’s funeral service on Saturday, calling his tragic death “devastating” and “senseless.”
Her moving tribute with personal anecdotes about their early days of dating and his childhood came moments after Diller was posthumously promoted to detective.
“My husband died a hero, but he also lived as one,” she said.
Diller’s new badge number is 110, to honor his young son’s birthday. His son, Ryan, was seen being held just steps behind his mother on the altar of St. Rose of Lima.
In her closing remarks she stated, “Rest in peace Jonathan, the man who captured my heart and now all of New York’s.”
Diller, 31, was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop in Queens on Monday. Thousands of NYPD’s Finest and officers from neighboring states of New Jersey and Connecticut descended on Massapequa to honor the fallen cop.
Ahead of the emotional funeral service, flower arrangements were seen being carried into the church. Former President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, were among mourners who sent arrangements.
