1:24Now PlayingDoctors across India are striking and protesting after a 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and killed while resting on hospital premises in Kolkata earlier this month.
Footage recorded by Dr Ram Choudhary shows a protest in Barmer, in India’s Rajasthan state.
Human Rights Watch said protests were ongoing across the country after the discovery of the body of the female trainee doctor at a Kolkata hospital on August 9.
A volunteer worker at the hospital has been arrested in connection with the crime, which is under investigation.
According to reports, the doctor’s “body bore severe injuries, including fractures, suggesting a brutal assault.”
She was found in a classroom where she had gone to rest following a 36-hour shift, and which was designated as a rest area by the hospital, according to Human Rights Watch.
Protesters are demanding justice and better security and facilities at medical campuses and hospitals.
