"My name's Governor Gavin Newsom," he said to wild cheers, before adding: "from the great state of Nancy Pelosi."
"I come from a state — like our nation — of dreamers, of doers, of entrepreneurs, of innovators that prides itself of being on the leading and cutting edge of new ideas," he added. "We believe the future happens in California first."
Pelosi, 84, is one of the oldest members of Congress and has served in the US House of Representatives since 1987, when she won a special election race after having served for more than a decade in California and national Democratic politics.
