Footage taken by X user @RenoMakani shows water gushing down the Mamalahoa Highway.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood warning for the Big Island, with reports of road closures due to rising waters.
The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) warned the hurricane was expected to produce rainfall amounts between 6 and 12 inches “over mainly windward and southeast facing slopes of the Big Island,” with totals closer to 4 inches over portions of the smaller islands.
