Smoke could be seen rising from behind houses near the border between Israel and Lebanon, and several Israeli casualties from earlier rocket strikes were evacuated to a hospital in the city of Haifa.
Israeli media reported that a number of Israeli civilians had been wounded by anti-tank missile fire from Lebanon, but there was no official confirmation.
Earlier, Israel said its warplanes struck Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon overnight.
The explosions of Hezbollah radios and pagers threw the Iranian-backed group into a disarray and created panic among residents who were abandoning their mobile phones.
