1:33Now Playing181 suspects were arrested in Palermo, Sicily after Italian police made a successful effort to clamp down on organized crime.
Charges against the suspects include attempted murder, extortion aggravated by methods employed by the mafia, aiding and abetting, weapons offences, crimes against property, illegal gambling, and other crimes according to the Carabinieri police force.
Astonishingly, the Carabineieri also claimed that already-detained mafia bosses were able to conduct operations from prison using encrypted cell phones.
In a statement on X, Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni said, “Organized crime is in trouble, the fight against the mafia has not stopped and will not stop.”
