1:33Now PlayingPolice said that they had arrested the man with a Palestinian flag who climbed the Elizabeth Tower, which houses Big Ben, at London’s Palace of Westminster on Saturday, March 8.
Westminster Police said that the arrest was “a protracted incident due to the specifics of where the man was located and the need to ensure the safety of our officers, the individual, and the wider public.”
The man eventually came down from the tower in an aerial work platform after Big Ben struck midnight, according to reports. He was subsequently arrested.
The man had reached a ledge several metres up the tower, where he wrapped a keffiyeh scarf around a piece of stonework, according to local reports.
He had published footage showing negotiators using a mechanized platform to speak with him and urging him to come down.
This footage captured by Leticia Davino shows the man perched on the ledge. Fire brigade vehicles and ambulances are seen gathered in the vicinity.
