1:01Now PlayingUkrainian soldiers performed a haka to honor Dominic Abelen, a New Zealand volunteer killed in battle in August 2022. Abelen died while securing a Russian trench in the Vuhledar region, and his body was taken by Russian forces before being returned to Kyiv. Fellow soldiers and former unit members performed the traditional Māori war dance as a tribute before his remains were repatriated to New Zealand.
