The Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia has been notified from Russia that ex-Defense Minister Mikayel Harutyunyan—who is a defendant in the criminal case into what had occurred in capital city Yerevan, in March 2008—is a Russian citizen.

Former Defense Minister Mikayel Harutyunyan has been charged in Armenia within the framework of the criminal case into the tragic events that transpired in Yerevan on March 1 and 2, 2008—and under Article 300.1 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code; that is, breaching Armenia’s constitutional order, in conspiracy with others.

A 27-year-old resident of Tavush Province has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and along the lines of the criminal case which the Investigative Committee of Armenia is investigating into the murder of a woman and her son, in Berd town of Tavush Province.

The police informed that this young man was found while attempting to leave Armenia. He was detained and then—arrested.

Syrian Armenians, Iraqi Armenians, and several other Armenian repatriates who have settled in Armenia on Tuesday are staging a protest outside the Ministry of Diaspora.

They have written a letter against the decision to dissolve the ministry, and which they intend to deliver to the Acting Prime Minister.

As reported earlier, as a result of reorganization of the government structure, the number of ministries in Armenia is expected to be reduced from 17 to 12.

Armenia’s Prosecutor General's Office has appealed the court decision to release retired general Manvel Grigoryan on bail.

Later in the day Prosecutor General’s Office appealed the decision of the court rejecting the motion to arrest former Deputy PM Armen Gevorgyan.

Two small protest actions were staged near Russia’s embassy in Yerevan. One group of demonstrators were protesting against the current situation at the Russian military base in Gyumri, the non-statutory relations, and the Russian military servicemen’s conduct in Armenia and which threatens the safety of Armenian citizens. They also urged Armenian authorities to conduct a new policy toward Russia and change the nature of relations between the two countries.

Activists from the Communist Party of Armenia, in turn, held a rally in support of maintaining the military base. The party issued a statement strongly criticizing—in their words—the dissemination of anti-Russian sentiments among the Armenian society.
