KARABAKH
Russian has received the status of an official language in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
Chairman of the Artsakh parliament's standing committee Aram Harutyunyan, who is one of the co-authors of this law initiative, told Armenian NEWS.am that the matter is with respect to giving Russian the status of the second official language, whereas Armenian remains the only state language of Artsakh.
Earlier, the persons behind this initiative had assured that there was no coercion from the Russian side in this regard.
TURKISH PARTY
Armenian doctor has joined the leadership of Turkey ruling party.
During the congress of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Istanbul Armenian doctor Sevan Sivacioglu became a member of the party's executive committee.
According to Milliyet, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was re-elected as chairman of the AKP, and the Armenian physician was included in the members of the executive committee.
Sivacioglu worked as a surgeon at the Armenian hospital in Istanbul.
REPORT
Correspondent Jonah Fisher has investigated the “disappearance of an Armenian church” that changed hands to Azerbaijan in the recent Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war, BBC reported.
As per the respective online video, “Azerbaijan has said ethnic Armenians are welcome to stay in Nagorno-Karabakh but Armenia has accused it of damaging and destroying Armenian cultural heritage left behind in the region, including churches and monuments.”
MARCH
Armenian opposition Homeland Salvation Movement has scheduled a nationwide rally in Yerevan rally on Sunday.
The movement was demanding Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan's resignation.
On Sunday, the protesters will meet downtown Yerevan to present the movement’s future actions.
"Our goal and agenda remain unchanged," they said in a statement.
COVID-19
As of Thursday morning, 1,257 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Armenia, and the total number of these cases has reached 187,441 in the country.
Also, 18 more deaths from COVID-19 were registered, making the respective total 3,416 cases.
The number of people who have recovered is 169,727.
And 5,228 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Armenia over the past day.
KARDASHIAN
American TV star Kim Kardashian, her older sister Kourtney and mother Kris Jenner have joined the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) initiative to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
In her Instagram stories, Kim posted a photo with the caption “I recognize the Armenian Genocide,” tagging her family members and the famous Armenian makeup artist Hrush Achemyan.
System of a Down star Serj Tankian, producer Eric Esrailian and others also took part in this campaign.
SPORT
Armenia on Thursday will start their campaign in the European zone competition of the group stage in the qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar.
In the first round, Armenia will play an away match against Liechtenstein.
Team captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan, however, is out due to injury.
Bookmakers consider Armenia to be the favorites, as they give a bet of 1.30 for their win, whereas the respective bet on Lichtenstein is 10, and that on a draw is 5.
