In March 1997, thousands of people reported seeing a series of strange lights over the valley in the night sky. The Air National Guard at the time said the lights were flares, but some eyewitnesses believed they were UFOs. The event led to a book and a documentary by one witness, Phoenix physician Lynne Kitei, who says the data surrounding the event "speaks for itself." She claims several sightings that night spanning multiple time zones for "over a dozen hours" are proof that the lights weren't military airplane flares.
