Former Antisemite Lucas Gage Says He Changed — I Put Him to the Test

Lucas Gage spent years promoting extreme antisemitic rhetoric online. He has openly described his former worldview as racial antisemitism, admits his rhetoric went far beyond legitimate criticism, and has now publicly renounced many of the beliefs he once promoted.

But does saying you were wrong erase years of damage?

I invited Lucas on for a long-form conversation about exactly that.

I wanted to understand how someone goes from openly attacking Jews and pushing antisemitic ideas to publicly fighting against antisemitism and challenging many of the people he once considered allies.

And I wasn't interested in giving him easy questions.

We discuss his former beliefs, the rhetoric he used, his falling out with the antisemitic movement, Israel, October 7th, the "genocide" accusation, conspiracy theories, his interactions with Jewish communities, the people he once associated with, and what exactly caused him to reconsider his worldview.

I also explain something directly to Lucas:

I don't trust him yet.

That isn't because I believe people are incapable of changing. People absolutely can change.

But apologies and words only mean so much to me. When someone has spent years promoting harmful ideas, I believe the strongest evidence of genuine change is what that person does afterward.

Actions matter.

If Lucas continues fighting antisemitism, correcting misinformation, confronting ideas he once helped spread, and doing the right thing when nobody is asking him to do it, then his actions over the coming years will speak louder than anything either of us could say in this interview.
