Heavy rain battered Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria yesterday and today, flooding streets and wreaking widespread damage to homes and businesses.

In Greece, one man died and five people were reported missing as police asked people not to drive in the central town of Volos, the nearby mountain region of Pilion and the resort island of Skiathos. Parts of Greece have seen half their annual rainfall fall in a day.

In Istanbul, flooding killed at least two people, and about a dozen people were rescued after being stranded inside a library.

In Bulgaria, two people died and three others were missing after a storm caused floods on the country’s southern Black Sea coast.
