The annual event kicks off each year on Jan. 5, featuring ice sculpting competitions, castles made of ice and snow, a giant ferris wheel and large ice slides. The event bills itself as the largest ice and snow festival in the world. According to the festival website, the event brings in over $4 billion a year. The Harbin Ice Festival continues through late February or early March, weather permitting.
