Trump says he won't use force in Greenland, pushes back on Canada P.M.'s rhetoric

President Trump spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, today.

He’s faced heavy criticism from European allies about his demands for control of Greenland. Trump told the gathering this morning that he's seeking to negotiate over the ownership of Greenland — but that he won't “use force.” Trump continued to insist that U.S. ownership of Greenland is necessary for national security. He said Europe can either say yes on Greenland and the U.S. will be grateful or they can refuse and, "we will remember."

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke yesterday, calling the political situation a “rupture.” He said "middle powers," such as Canada, must act together. If they don’t put themselves at the table, he warned, they’ll find themselves on the menu. Trump made a jab at Carney’s remarks in his address this morning, saying "Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements."
