In memo, ICE asserts power to enter into people's homes without a judicial warrant

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement memo says federal agents may enter private property without first getting a warrant from a federal judge. The directive is outlined in a document last year that was leaked by a whistleblower.

In the May 12 memo — which the Associated Press first reported — acting ICE Director Todd Lyons claims that agents need only an administrative warrant from ICE itself to enter someone’s home.

Meanwhile, several police chiefs in Minnesota are condemning the tactics federal immigration authorities are using in their towns, alleging agents are unlawfully stopping Minnesotans and racially profiling them.
