President Trump has arrived in China for a state visit. He plans to focus on trade, rather than the war in Iran. Before he left, he said he didn't consider Americans’ financial situation when it came to launching a new war in the Middle East:

"The only thing that matters when I'm talking about Iran? They can't have a nuclear weapon. I don't think about Americans' financial situation. I don't think about anybody. I think about one thing: They're not going to have a nuclear weapon now. If the stock market goes up or down a little bit, the American people understand."

But it’s not the stock market that’s hurting consumers — the government reported yesterday, consumer prices rose in April 3.8% compared to the same time a year ago. Prices were up for many things — especially gas. Also yesterday, Pentagon officials adjusted estimates for the cost of the war in Iran, saying costs had grown to $29 billion, not including repairs to U.S. facilities attacked by Iran, where repairs could add billions more to the price tag.
