Northern minke whales have a white band on both of their pectoral fins, while the Antarctic population of minke whales lack this striking color difference. Minke whales are the smallest baleen whale in the Northern hemisphere, being just beaten out for smallest baleen whale in the world by the pygmy right whales that live in the Southern hemisphere.
