OceanX Science Program Director Mattie Rodrigue explains the goals behind our latest deep sea expedition to Monsoon Rise—an unexplored region of the Indian Ocean containing seamounts that have never been studied.

In partnership with the National University of Singapore and Tropical Marine Science Institute, this mission brings together a team of leading scientists from across Southeast Asia and the Pacific. The goal: to map these remote underwater mountains, study their biodiversity, and potentially discover marine species new to science.

This research expedition is part of OceanX’s commitment to advancing ocean science, strengthening regional capacity, and deepening global understanding of deep sea ecosystems.
