as posted by the channelA terrorist attack struck the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. A man drove into pedestrians, stabbed a security guard while wearing what appeared to be an explosive vest, and was shot dead by police. Two people were killed and two others arrested in connection with the assault.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack, chaired an emergency cabinet meeting, and ordered increased police protection at synagogues across the UK. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy visited the synagogue as the nation mourns.
The incident is being treated as a terrorist act and comes amid rising global religious violence. Synagogues in the U.S. have tightened security, following the murders of Israeli embassy staffers in Washington, DC, and the reported killings of more than 7,000 Christians by Islamic terrorists in Nigeria in 2025.
