In this Our Changing Climate environmental video essay, I look at how Donald Trump uses the Coronavirus (COVID-19) as an excuse and distraction in order to dismantle essential environmental regulations. With the world focused on the Coronavirus, the Trump administration has halted the EPA's environmental compliance enforcement wing, pushed through an anti-science and anti-environmental agenda, and reversed fuel efficiency standards among other environmental changes. COVID-19 has been an excellent excuse for the Trump administration to deregulate oil and gas industries but as a recent study shows, the air pollution from these industries could be exacerbating the Coronavirus pandemic. So, not only has the Trump administration bungled the response to COVID-19, but they are also actively making the Coronavirus, the environment, and climate change worse.
