A member of the US House of Representatives from 1981 to 2013 and a Democrat, Congressman Frank served as the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and was a leading co-sponsor of the 2010 Dodd–Frank Act, a sweeping reform of the US financial industry. He has been considered the most prominent gay politician in the United States, and was the first member of Congress to voluntarily come out as gay. In 2012, he became the first member of Congress to marry someone of the same sex whilst in office.
