Ratcliffe is the husband of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian who has been wrongly imprisoned by the government of Iran since 2016. Ratcliffe is an outspoken campaigner for his wife’s release, and the return of his four-year-old daughter, Gabriella, who is now being raised in Tehran.
He notably launched a petition for Nazanin and Gabriella's return, in 2016, and began a hunger strike in June outside the Iranian Embassy in London. Most recently, Ratcliffe attended the UN General Assembly to advocate for his family's return.
