If you don’t get your decision within one month of your asylum interview, I recommend sending an email to the asylum office. 📩 In that email, you can say something like: “I had my interview on [date], I have yet to receive my decision, could you please let the officer know that I stand ready to provide any information that may be required to bring my case to a conclusion, and would it be possible to let me know when I might expect to actually receive the decision?” Rarely, but sometimes this kind of email is enough to get the case moving and get a decision. ✨ But if you applied for asylum five years or more ago, then you’re in a position to probably have success with a mandamus lawsuit to force your decision. ⏳ To be clear, I’m talking about the time between applying and now, not the time between the interview and now. If the time between applying and now is five years or more, we should talk about possibly suing the government to force your decision. If you want to learn more, send the word “consult” to me in a direct message. 💬
