YouTube Description
as posted by the channelImagine being locked inside a detention center during the holiest season of your faith and being told you cannot pray, worship, or receive communion. 🙏 As immigration detention has surged to nearly seventy thousand people, many detainees are being denied access to religious services during Lent and Ramadan. Priests are turned away, Muslim detainees lack chaplains, and some skip meals because they cannot confirm whether food is halal. 🚨 Religious groups have had to file lawsuits just to enter facilities and provide spiritual care. In some places, clergy needed a federal court order to enter on Ash Wednesday. In others, they prayed outside after being denied access. 📄 ICE standards say detainees must be allowed to practice their faith, yet access is often nonexistent. For many, faith is the only source of strength during the most frightening chapter of their lives. When churches and religious leaders have to sue the government just to pray with detainees, something has gone deeply wrong. ⏳
