ICE agents were under orders to arrest eight people per day, and they had a secret app helping them decide who. 🚨 A recent article in The Guardian reveals that courtroom testimony exposed how ICE officers in Oregon used daily arrest quotas and a surveillance app called Elite to target immigrant neighborhoods. Under oath, an agent confirmed his team was instructed to make eight arrests per day as part of Operation Black Rose, which produced more than 1,200 arrests in Oregon in just a few months. The app Elite, reportedly built by Palantir, maps neighborhoods based on how many people with any immigration nexus live there. That nexus can even include naturalized U.S. citizens. In one pre-dawn operation, agents followed a van of farm workers heading to work, smashed the windows, and detained all seven people inside. The arresting officer later cited the passengers speaking Spanish as confirmation of smuggling. One woman in the van had a valid visa, but ICE’s report falsely stated she entered without authorization. She was transferred to a detention center in Washington State and later released without explanation. ⚖️ A federal judge halted warrantless arrests in Oregon and concluded that ICE had targeted communities with little regard for lawful arrests. Federal courts are where constitutional rights are enforced, and those judges are far more independent than the judges you see in immigration court. When officers are rewarded for arrest numbers instead of accuracy, everyone in an immigrant neighborhood becomes a target, including people with full legal status.
