A detained person can call you, and a lawyer can communicate by phone or video from anywhere 📞 You’re not limited to hiring a lawyer in your city. You can choose one anywhere in the country, which matters because not all immigration lawyers are equal ⚖️ But location still matters for one key reason: it determines where a habeas corpus case is filed. That’s why the first thing a lawyer will ask is where the person is right now 📍 You can track them using the ICE Detainee Locator. Just search for it online, but know that it may not update in real time ⏳ Someone may not appear for a day or two after being detained or transferred.
