1:45Now PlayingImmigrant New Yorkers with valid work permits, pending asylum cases, and legal Social Security numbers are now hiding in the shadows to avoid arrest and deportation. 🚨 Documented NY reports that ICE sightings in New York City jumped from 20 in June to 59 in July, with Queens accounting for nearly half of all sightings across the five boroughs since the beginning of summer. People with pending asylum cases and valid work authorization are staying home on their days off, skipping medical appointments, and avoiding cars in favor of public transportation because they no longer trust that their legal documents will protect them. One 55-year-old restaurant worker in Brooklyn, with an immigration court hearing scheduled for 2028, is leaving the country after watching videos of immigrants being violently arrested and deciding he couldn’t wait to find out if he’d be next. A 56-year-old mother in the Bronx who has lived and worked here for nearly three decades described children stuck indoors all summer, parents missing their kids’ college graduations, and families creating emergency plans they pray they’ll never need. 💔 Data analyzed by the City Reporter found that 93% of ICE arrests between October 2025 and March 2026 were of Latinos. Community members say officers are stopping people simply because of how they look or what language they speak. The Trump administration is counting on fear doing the work that the law cannot, pushing people out of their homes, communities, and cases before a judge ever gets to hear them. ⚖️ The people being forced into the shadows right now have every right to be here, and that right is worth defending.
