Taped between 1971 and 1973, these frank discussions on topics ranging from détente with China to the SALT talks with the Soviets, from Nixon’s re-election campaign to the Watergate fallout, have been mostly unavailable to the public. Brinkley, Rice professor and author of bestselling histories including The Wilderness Warrior, worked closely with Luc Nichter, a Texas A&M history professor who has digitized thousands of hours of Nixon’s tapes and is active in the ongoing court battles to release more sealed Watergate documents.
